Hot Sauce Expo
The breeze off the East River may have been cold this weekend, but there was plenty of warmth in small doses to be found at the first NYC Hot Sauce Expo. East River State Park on North 8th Street played host to more than 30 vendors catering to the bold and thrill-seeking eaters from across New York City and beyond.
Beyond providing a venue to try and purchase various unique recipes for Scoville-pushing elixirs, the Expo offered eating challenges for attendees (like a ghost pepper cookie-eating) and spicy drink preparation contests for area bartenders (michelada and bloody mary concoction). Additionally, local musicians, food and spirits vendors, and a lot of beer were also on hand to help cool everyone down.
