Does your idea of the perfect Saturday afternoon involve eating wings and drinking beer? Well put on an old shirt and grab a packet of moist towelettes because Red Star Bar's Third Annual Best Wings in Brooklyn Competition is taking place on Saturday, February 25th.
Did I mention the event and the wings are FREE? (Sorry not the beer).
Beginning at 2 p.m., voracious wing fans can stop by the Greenpoint sports bar to sample and evaluate the poultry provisions from dozens of competitors, including The Dram Shop (Park Slope), Mulholland's (Williamsburg), Bonnie's Grill (Park Slope), 773 Lounge (Ditmas Park), Lone Star (Bay Ridge) and 2011's reigning champ, Life Cafe 983 (Bushwick).
The bar has assembled a top-notch panel of wing experts including New York Daily News Features Editor Jacob E. Osterhout, Yelp Brooklyn's Peter DeNat, Brooklyn Paper's Foodie-in-Chief Sarah Zorn, Chow/NY 1 correspondent (and FoodCurated creator) Liza DeGuia, and Brooklyn Exposed's very own Founder and Publisher, Sharon Beason, to determine the winner of the Judges' Award. Attendees will also get a chance to voice their opinions by voting for the equally prestigious People's Choice Award. Results will be announced at 7 PM with Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz presiding over the awards ceremony.
A portion of the event's proceeds will benefit the Dr. Theodore Atlas Foundation's Atlas Cops and Kids program that uses boxing as a way to teach discipline and self-respect to inner city kids (insert Wire reference).
Manhattanites along with DUMBO and Long Island City residents hoping to eschew the G train should consider utilizing the East River Ferry (one of the event's sponsors) as Red Star Bar is three blocks away from the India Street ferry stop. Check out ferry routes and schedules.
