The BK Food Truck Aficionado’s Guide
For those of us stuck in a strict work schedule that prohibits spending more than thirty minutes on lunch, or for those who are tired of the same restaurants every single day, there is the food truck. Food truck offerings can run the gamut from tacos to halal, burgers to seafood. These mobile eateries can be found all over Brooklyn, are tracked down via Twitter, and will prove to be a welcome change to your lunchtime routine.
Jen 'n Outlaw's Fish Fry Truck and Crawfish Boil
While their official website inexplicably links to a nail salon entirely in Japanese, we can assure you that this Cajun/Creole diner on wheels is readily available for nomming. Their specialty is the catfish po’boy and their legendary fried pickles are to die for. Jen ‘n Outlaws Fish Fry Truck can be followed on Twitter and found at the Bogart exit of the Morgan stop on the L in Bushwick.
The Red Hook Lobster Pound
This mobile seafood truck serves the finest Maine lobster, seafood mac ‘n’ cheese and clam chowder for the masses. Red Hook Lobster Pound put up a monumental fight against Hurricane Sandy but sadly lost its truck, but in the meantime, you can check track them down on Twitter. You can find Red Hood Lobster Pound toughing it out until they get a new ride in March at Brooklyn Flea (One Hanson Place in Fort Greene) on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am - 4pm.
The Milk Truck
Comfort food on wheels is a dream come true. The Milk Truck’s gourmet menu includes bizarre and delicious twists on American classics like a grilled cheese sandwich comprised of aged Wisconsin gruyere, champagne vinegar pickled onions and whole grain dijon mustard on Blue Ribbon Bakery Jewish rye. Follow their Twitter to find out where they’ll be next. If you’re at the Brooklyn Flea this Saturday from 10am - 5pm, mosey on over to their stand and grab a bite!
Green Pirate Juice
Don’t let the name scare you off, unless you’re opposed to drinking healthy and delicious smoothies for lunch. Green Pirate Juice offers raw, vegan, fruit and vegetable smoothies. For instance, try the Superfood Smoothie #327
1 Frozen banana
½ cup spinach
6 ounces fresh squeezed pineapple juice
¼ cup coconut yogurt
Check out their tweets to find out where they’re parked every day.
El Diablo Taco Truck
First off, these devils are open until 3:30 in the morning, eliminating any need for a non-taco post-midnight snack. El Diablo Taco Truck boasts huge portions paired with cheap prices - a winning combination in the food truck world. What makes this taco truck unique is its attention to detail, which Yelpers describe as “legit fo’ sho’” in reference to their guacamole. And even better, they serve margaritas from a slushy machine. You can find El Diablo Taco Truck on 484 Union Avenue in Williamsburg.
Rosie’s Truck has been sitting on 154 Morgan Avenue in East Williamsburg since 1988. Rosie’s offers classic American cuisine, including their crispy chicken cutlet sandwich. If seafood and smoothies aren’t your cup of tea, give Rosie’s classic Americana food a try. Twenty-seven years of loyal service can’t be wrong!
The motto for this rolling bake sale is “Not too fancy, always delicious.” Treats Truck offers a variety of delicious desserts including butterscotch brownies and PB&J cookies, as well as a full menu of lunch items listed under a plethora of funny names (e.g. the I Am Special Salad and the Super Duper Egg Sandwich). Treats Truck makes one stop in BK at 193 Columbia Heights in Brooklyn Heights. Follow their Twitter to get the skinny of deals and promotions!
Believe it or not, Kimchi Grill falls under the categories of Korean, Mexican and BBQ. Their truck offers a diverse menu of tacos, cheesesteaks and the trail-blazingly delicious “falafel kimchi taco.” The kim-cheesesteak sandwich is comprised of the strangely addictive combination of kimchi and melted cheese. Kimchi Grill also offers promotions to those who trek out to their spot. From now until the 18th, every tenth customer receives a $1 taco or a $5 pork belly burrito! Check out their Twitter to find out where they’re going to be next!
