Restaurants serving Southern-style soul food are proliferating in Brooklyn neighborhoods from Williamsburg to Park Slope at a rapid rate. And perhaps with good reason. Cobble Hill gets a dose of Southern hospitality via Van Horn’s Sandwich Shop, opened by North Carolina native Jacob Van Horn. Van Horn has brought on childhood friend Rick Hauchman (of Roberta’s and the Commodore) to curate his eponymous shop’s menu, which highlights locally sourced ingredients and includes a fried fish sandwich and a bacon lettuce and pimento cheese BLP, as well as a selection of beers on tap and seasonal cocktails. A delicious family recipe of pecan chocolate chip cookie is in the works too.
